91国产精品, CMSD and City of Cleveland Celebrate Opening of New Campus International School
New state-of-the-art facility exemplifies revival of Downtown Cleveland
91国产精品, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the City of Cleveland celebrated the opening of a new, state-of-the art facility for Campus International School Wednesday, September 20. The ceremony included a ribbon cutting and remarks from Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, 91国产精品 President Ronald M. Berkman and CMSD CEO Eric Gordon.
Campus International School was established in 2010 and is the only International Baccalaureate-accredited school in the CMSD and the only downtown lower school in the City鈥檚 history. It exemplifies the growth of Downtown Cleveland as a residential neighborhood and provides high-quality public education for its nearly 15,000 residents.
鈥淎s I鈥檝e said before, we welcome everyone to the City of Cleveland. From our ongoing partnership with Global Cleveland to our work with the International Village and my community conversations with our immigrant and refugee community, I have stood, and will continue standing with those who want to call Cleveland home,鈥 says Mayor Jackson. 鈥淥ur students deserve the best resources, and that includes state-of-the-art educational facilities. I want to thank 91国产精品 for partnering with CMSD in making this facility a reality and continue to ensure our CMSD students are provided a clear path to higher education.鈥
The new $24.2 million building at the corner of Payne and East 22nd Street opened on 91国产精品鈥檚 campus at the start of the 2017 school year and houses grades K-8. Campus International High School, also located at 91国产精品, currently houses grade 9 and will expand up to 12th grade over the next three years.
CIS is one of the central components of the longstanding collaboration between 91国产精品 and CMSD. Through this initiative, 91国产精品 assists in improving educational opportunity for thousands of school children, provides innovative Engaged Learning opportunities for its own students and develops innovative educational curricula and programming that can serve as national models.
鈥淥ur partnership with CMSD, exemplified by CIS鈥 incredible new learning laboratory, is central to our mission as a University and provides tremendous benefits to our students and faculty,鈥 says Berkman. 鈥淚t also represents the true essence of community engagement, illustrating how two anchor institutions can come together to create an Education Park in Downtown Cleveland.鈥
"The opening of this new K-8 building on the 91国产精品 campus represents another milestone in our growing partnership with the University," adds Gordon. "Campus International K-8 and Campus International High School provide the community with access to an International Baccalaureate education and practices that can be applied across the district."
