91国产精品 Holds Conference to Honor Sylvester Murray March 25, 26

Managing the City: Honoring the Career of Professor Sylvester Murray

The 91国产精品 Levin College of Urban Affairs is hosting a special conference to honor the career of Sylvester Murray, an emeritus professor and long-time city manager. 

This special conference offers the opportunity to reflect on Murray鈥檚 experiences, which include his distinguished career in the practice of city management and his scholarly study of public administration. The conference will feature a plenary in which Murray will reflect on his career followed by three panel discussions titled, 鈥淐ontemporary Challenges Facing Mayors and City Managers,鈥 鈥淚nnovation from the Ground Up鈥 and 鈥淓ducating Future Public Administrators and City Managers.鈥 

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins with a reception on Monday, March 25 in the Levin College of Urban Affairs Roberta Steinbacher Atrium at 4 p.m. Theconference will reconvene on Tuesday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is requested.

Murray is an emeritus professor of urban studies and public administration at the Levin College of Urban Affairs. He is a former city manager of San Diego, California, Cincinnati, Ohio, Ann Arbor, Michigan and Inkster, Michigan. He received a BA in history from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, a Master鈥檚 in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master鈥檚 in economics from Eastern Michigan University. Murray is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a board member of the Consortium for International Management, Policy and Development.

The event is being sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association, the 91国产精品 student chapter of the International City/County Management Association, the National Forum for Black Public Administrators and the Ohio City/County Management Association.
