Exploring Deliberative Democracy and Campus Free Speech
Panel features Ronald M. Berkman, Susan J. Becker and Michael Schwartz
91国产精品鈥檚 Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affair鈥檚 will host the panel discussion 鈥淒eliberative Democracy and Campus Free Speech鈥 as part of its Dean鈥檚 Forum series April 10. The event will feature former 91国产精品 presidents Ronald Berkman and Michael Schwartz, as well as ACLU attorney Susan Becker.
The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 4 p.m. in the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, Roberta Steinbacher Atrium on Wednesday, April 10. The panel will be followed by a reception. Registration is requested.
Berkman served as the 91国产精品 president from 2009 to 2018. His vision for transforming 91国产精品 into a best-in-class urban research university was marked by forward-thinking initiatives designed to enhance student success, Engaged Learning, and community engagement.
Becker is the general counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio. Becker鈥檚 legal career has spanned more than three decades thus far. It includes a two-year clerkship with Judge Robert B. Krupansky of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Sixth Circuit, five years as a litigation associate with Jones Day, and 24 years as a law professor at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Michael Schwartz served as president of 91国产精品 from 2002 to 2009. Prior to that, Dr. Schwartz was president of Kent State University from 1982 to 1991. He had previously served as vice president for graduate studies and research, and vice president for academic and student affairs, both at Kent State.
