Office of Research Announces Request for Proposals for Internet of Things Development

The IoT is impacting numerous aspects of society, from the devices we use to education to security to economics, and 91¹ú²ú¾«Æ·â€™s faculty can integrate IoT into their field of research to help drive this revolution.
The Office of Research has created a new initiative as part of its successful Faculty Research and Development Program to develop a stronger University-wide research base related to the IoT and to better align the University’s research priorities with the mission of the recently formed 91¹ú²ú¾«Æ·-CWRU IoT partnership. That collaboration was established to expand research and educational opportunities in this rapidly growing field.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty are encouraged to submit proposals for multi-disciplinary research that develops or leverages an innovation in IoT-related technology to address critical issues in one or more of the following areas:
- Smart Cities – Bridging the digital divide, Smart physical infrastructure, Improved municipal/county services, Transportation, Public safety, Environmental monitoring
- Manufacturing – Automation, Adaptive operation, Digital thread
- Healthcare – Connected health devices, Improved health services (formal and informal care), Diagnostics and prognostics, Health data management
- Energy – Grid resilience and reliability, Efficiency, Security
- Crosscutting areas – Software, Interoperability, Human-machine interface (HMI), Cybersecurity, Big data, Business models, Standards, Ethics, Legal areas (Privacy, Consent, Liability, Regulation, Ownership of data), Education
It is expected that awardees will use this internal funding to initiate a robust IoT research program that is further supported by external funding sources.
