Richard Perloff Honored by Press Club of Cleveland
Selected for best essay writing in Ohio
Richard M. Perloff, professor of communication, political science and psychology at 91国产精品, won the award for best newspaper essay writing at the 2018 Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards sponsored by the Press Club of Cleveland. Perloff was recognized for a series of op-eds he published in the Plain Dealer. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the House of Blues-Cleveland on June 1.

鈥淚 am extremely honored to receive this recognition from the Press Club,鈥 Perloff said. 鈥淚 like to take scholarly ideas, with their rich implications, to people outside the university to suggest new ways of seeing old problems. It鈥檚 a challenge, but really lots of fun, to write pieces that everyone can relate to, think about, perhaps reflect differently on, or disagree with, but maybe, I hope, with a little more understanding of a different view of the issue.鈥
Richard Perloff joined Cleveland State in 1979 and has served in numerous leadership capacities over his tenure, including director of the School of Communication from 2004 to 2011. He is also considered a national expert on perceived media effects, persuasion and political communication, and the author of The Dynamics of Persuasion: Communication and Attitudes in the 21st Century and The Dynamics of Political Communication: Media and Politics in a Digital Age. On top of his writing in the Plain Dealer, Perloff has published many letters to the editor in The New York Times, as well as letters in The New Yorker and USA Today, among others.
