Over the summer, we surveyed the campus grounds and created a map based on the collection of plants at 91¹ú²ú¾«Æ·. While out in the field, we identified the plants, took pictures, and plotted points based on the location. Back in the office, we researched more details and characteristics of each plant species using data from North Carolina State Extension, Minnesota Botanical Gardens, United States Department of Agriculture, and Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS). This map includes information such as scientific name, common name, habit/type (shrub, forb/herb, vine, grass, etc.), plant grouping in bed, bloom time, bloom color, pH range, moisture use, fruit description, if it’s invasive and/or noxious, and leaf characteristics.

The dashboard is a visual companion to the web map to make the information more digestible. This visual includes bloom time of plants by seasons, a pie chart depicting the various plant types on campus, and two tables showing the total points of forb/herb species and shrub species. The original map is displayed within the visual. Moving or zooming in/out of the map will change the tables and charts to only show information for what is viewed on the map. You can also click on a point and a pop-up with more information, including pictures, will be displayed.
