Mobile Campus
Program Overview
Mobile Campus is located in the 91国产精品 Student Center in room SC128A (campus map - pdf). Currently registered 91国产精品 students in good standing with the University can borrow HP laptops or MacBook Airs and basic or feature-rich scientific color graphing calculators for on-and-off campus use, at no cost. Loans are issued for seven days and may be renewed, in person, in some circumstances. Devices are available on a first-come/first-served basis. All equipment must be returned or renewed at the location from which it was borrowed no later than one hour before closing.
Because most batteries will not remain charged for the duration of the loan, Mobile Campus offers A/C power cords with loaned laptops. It is important to remember, however, if a device is borrowed with a power cord and is returned without the cord, the device will be considered still on loan (and subject to late fines) until all borrowed components are returned.
Free Program Registration
Students register for the program once and remain registered and bound by the registration agreement guidlines for as long as they remain enrolled at 91国产精品. Simple registration only requires the student to present two photo IDs (One must be a 91国产精品 student ID card and the other a government-issued ID card such as Driver's License, Passport, State ID Card, etc.), and reading and signing the registration form. A photo copy of the 91国产精品 ID card will be made when registering for the program; this copy will be retained at Mobile Campus for future reference. Once eligibility has been established, a student can check out a device simply by verifying their current enrollment by presenting their 91国产精品 ID card to be scanned.
Software
Each laptop includes wireless capability, MS Office, web browsers, and other standard software. While configured with the most commonly used software for students' convenience, the devices do not provide the full suite of software available in the General Computer Labs. If access to specialized software such as SAS or SPSS is required, students will find a wider array of software in the General Computer labs.
Hardware
Mobile Campus has several hundred laptops and calculators available to be borrowed by students. Each laptop has a hard drive that can be used for temporary storage of files (erased when laptop is returned). They also have a USB port. These laptops have high-capacity lithium ion batteries. AC adaptors can be borrowed along with devices (other than calculators) to accomodate seven-day loans but must be returned along with the device for the device to be considered "returned."
Saving your work
Students are provided with a large (one terrabyte) online, cloud-based storage folder, called OneDrive, which can be accessed from any network-connected computer, including Mobile Campus laptops and General Computer Lab desktops. This is the default storage option for Mobile Campus and the General Computer Lab desktop computers. USB ports are also available for students who prefer to save their documents on a USB "thumb-drive." Although the computers also have an internal hard drive, students are encouraged to save their work on a cloud-based network drive or their private thumb drive because the laptops are frequently re-imaged to ensure that they remain virus free, properly configured, and as trouble-free as possible. Saving your work also servers to preserve the privacy of each student's data. Any files stored on the hard drive will no longer be available after the student completes his or her session.
Printing your work
Limited free printing from Mobile Campus laptops is available in the Campus Connection Lounges and the General Computer Labs. Click here for more information about printing, purchasing additional printing, and requesting refunds for failed printing.
Fines and Fees
Although there is no cost to use these devices, late charges ($20 per day), repair, and replacement fines may result if a device is returned late, damaged, or is lost or stolen. The maximum fine is $2,000.00. All fines will be charged to the student's account at the University and collected by the Bursar's Office. Students with outstanding fines may be ineligible to borrow another device and may be unable to register for classes or obtain transcripts.
Lost or Stolen Equipment
Students are responsible for the equipment loaned to them by Mobile Campus. Use of this equipment is permitted only until the date and time due as indicated on the Mobile Campus Equipment Loan Agreement. Any use of this equipment after that time is beyond the scope of the agreement and may constitute a felony. If the equipment is lost or stolen, the student must file a report with the 91国产精品 Police Department and report the loss to Mobile Campus promptly to avoid additional late fines.
Program Funding
This program is entirely funded by Student Tech Fees and is therefore restricted to 91国产精品 student use only. Please take care of the equipment - you are helping to pay for it.
